EU Wide Protection

A good time to register your sign or business name as an EU trademark?

One registration procedure – automatic protection in 28 different countries (including the UK).

The latest EU trademark application our office has dealt with has successfully led to the registration of the EU trademark of a UK food supplements company.

It may actually be a good time to make the move. The European Commission has very recently published its proposed EU-UK withdrawal agreement, according to which those who have been granted an EU trademark before Brexit (including during the current withdrawal period) must be entitled to a UK trademark without having to apply for one. Thus, if one registers an EU trademark now (during the withdrawal period) and before Brexit is effected, one will be entitled to protection in the 27 member States of the EU and a UK trademark and thus equivalent protection in the UK for after Brexit.
